2010 California Antique Farm Equipment Show Opens April16

TULARE, Calif., (AgPR), April 15, 2010 - Gates open for the 17th Annual California Antique Farm Equipment Show tomorrow, April 16th. Here is the information you need to know.

Hours: Friday 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., Saturday 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., Sunday 8 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Exhibitors: Nearly 800 exhibitors from the western states exhibiting antique tractors and farm equipment.

Entertainment: International Agri-Center staff and volunteers welcome Jerry D. Hobbs and the Country Rhythm Makers at 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 17. Tickets for the concert and BBQ dinner are $30 (show admission not included). Contact International Agri-Center staff at 688.1030 to purchase tickets or purchase tickets online at Antiquefarmshow.org.

Barbecues light up at 10 a.m. on Sunday, April 18, for the 7th Annual Rib Cook-Off. Judging starts at 2 p.m. More than $3,500 in cash prizes will be for first second and third places will be awarded in two categories beef and pork ribs.

Vintage tractors will be put to the test during festival

PLAINVIEW -- Oh boy, do those guys in the old tractors know how to have a good time.
To practice for the Aug. 15 Tractor Games at Plainview's Corn on the Cob Days, they competed to see who could push a barrel, which was partially filled with water, down Third Avenue Southwest in Plainview. They also competed to see who could drive the slowest and who could maneuver a chain into a square on the pavement. All the while, others laughed, encouraged and laughed some more.

It's all because of a love of those old tractors.

Tractor Games is new to the festival because the Greenwood Prairie Classic Iron Club is new to the area. It formed because those young and old just love those old tractors.

"This is a normal meeting night, as normal as this bunch gets," said Joel Eggenberger of the Plainview Lions who are sponsoring the festival.

The club is dedicated to preserving old tractors, farm equipment, engines, law and garden equipment and construction equipment that helped build America. While it's open to anyone, its members tend to be a bit older. But then, Tom Duden, club president, is 23.
The club has 39 paid members, he said. Leo Sagissor of Lake City came up with the idea and spread the word that there was going to be a meeting to decide if they should form a club, Duden said. The first meeting was in January and temperatures were well below zero, Duden said. Twenty-three people showed up. "That really surprised me," he said.

Duden said he grew up in a town but worked on a farm when he was younger. He was too young to drive a car in town but he could drive a tractor on the farm.

When they practiced the games that will be part of the festival, MacKenzie Schroeder, 8, watched. "Cool," she said of the tractors and antics. "They're cool. I've never seen a tractor push a barrel before."

Besides cool, she also thinks the men are crazy "a little bit." And then she thought about it and said "a lot of bit" crazy. "They're having too much fun," she said.

Antique Tractor Drive Planned for Wayne County Illinois

The Wayne County Tractor Drive, scheduled for Monday, Sept. 7 (Labor Day), will be an opportunity for antique tractor lovers from southern Illinois to showcase their collections.
All tractors that are model year 1979 or earlier (30 years of age or older) are welcome to participate.
The planned route for the drive will begin north of Geff at Grainergy Farms on U.S. 45. The tractors will head south on the highway to the Wayne County Fairgrounds in Fairfield.
The public can join the drivers there for lunch and talk one on one about the tractors and their history. Lunch will be sold by the Wayne County FFA Chapters.
The tractors will depart the fairgrounds at 2 p.m. The planned route will take tractors past the Brookstone Estates and the Way-Fair nursing home; then heading east through Leo French Park and north on Enterprise/Clay City Road. The route will take the tractors west through rural Wayne County to Geff, and then north on U.S. 45 to finish at Grainergy Farms.
Recognition will be given for the oldest tractor, oldest driver and the driver who traveled the furthest to be at the event. A picture will be taken of each tractor and driver while at the fairgrounds. Pictures will be e-mailed to the drivers.
Registration is $20 per tractor if registered by Aug. 15. After Aug. 15, registration is $30.

Net proceeds of the Wayne County Tractor Drive will go to the Wayne County Ag in the Classroom program.
